Danse Macabre is based on an orchestral poem by the same name written in 1874 by Camille Saint-Saëns. According to legend, Death appears at midnight every year on Halloween and calls forth the dead to dance for him while he plays his fiddle. They dance until dawn, when they must return to their graves until the next year. Here, the song is reimagined as a hauntingly earthy scent, reminiscent of an autumn evening in the woods.
